The Ambassador of Ireland to Bangladesh, resident in New Delhi, Mr. Kevin Kelly, paid a courtesy call on the Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ms. Shama Obaed Islam, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday.


During the meeting, Ambassador Kelly congratulated the State Minister on assuming office and expressed optimism about further strengthening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Ireland under the current government.


Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation across a wide range of areas, including trade and commerce, development partnership, education, sports, culture, and consular and migration issues. They also discussed ways to deepen collaboration in both bilateral and multilateral forums.


The State Minister sought Ireland’s support for Bangladesh’s candidacy for the Presidency of the 81st United Nations General Assembly for the 2026–27 term.


The discussions also covered key regional and global issues, with both parties emphasizing the importance of peace, stability, and stronger international cooperation.
