A Reuters cameraman has been killed in an Israeli airstrike while covering a live broadcast outside Nasser Hospital in Gaza. The incident occurred on Monday (26 August), local time.
The victim, Hussam al-Masri, 49, had been reporting on the suffering of civilians in the war-torn enclave. Colleagues described him as a seasoned videographer whose resilience and optimism made him widely respected among Gaza’s journalist community.
Despite his professional dedication, al-Masri lived in a tent and struggled to provide food for his family amid the conflict. His brother, Ezzeldin al-Masri, who lives in Khan Younis, was later seen holding his equipment— a stark reminder of the extreme risks he faced while doing his job.
Al-Masri’s death once again underscores the grave dangers faced by journalists in Gaza, where covering the war has become an increasingly perilous task.
