Hon'ble Speaker of the Bangladesh National Parliament, Mr. Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, held a bilateral meeting with his Iranian counterpart, H.E. Mr. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in Tehran today.


Speaker Ghalibaf warmly welcomed the Bangladesh Speaker and his delegation, who are visiting Iran to attend the State Funeral of the late Supreme Leader of Iran, His Eminence Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.


During the meeting, Speaker Hafiz Uddin conveyed his profound condolences on the demise of Ayatollah Khamenei and condemned the circumstances surrounding his death. He expressed the solidarity of the Government and people of Bangladesh with the Government and people of Iran during this period of national mourning.


The Bangladesh Speaker highlighted the longstanding friendship between the two countries, emphasizing the centuries-old cultural, historical, and people-to-people ties that continue to strengthen bilateral relations.
He also commended Speaker Ghalibaf’s constructive role in facilitating the recent peace memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States. Expressing hope that the agreement would contribute to lasting peace, stability, and prosperity in Iran and the wider region, Speaker Hafiz Uddin reaffirmed Bangladesh’s support for the ongoing peace process and stressed the importance of resolving outstanding issues through dialogue and diplomacy.


During the talks, Speaker Hafiz Uddin extended an invitation to Speaker Ghalibaf to undertake an official visit to Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time.


The Bangladesh Speaker arrived in Tehran yesterday to lead the country’s delegation at the State Funeral. Upon arrival, the delegation was received at the airport by H.E. Mr. Hamid Reza Haji Babaei, Deputy Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran.


The meeting reflected the close and friendly relations between Bangladesh and Iran and underscored both countries’ commitment to strengthening parliamentary cooperation and regional peace.
